ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ Celebration of Lights

December 1, 2025

Save the date for the 47th Celebration of Lights on Monday, December 1, 2025. Join students, alumni, families, faculty, staff, and neighbors as we welcome the season with carols, a reading of the Christmas Story, and the lighting of the Dallas Hall Lawn.

This beloved ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ tradition—first imagined by students in 1977—brings our community together for music by student performers, the tree lighting and luminarias, and plenty of holiday cheer across the Quad. Full schedule, parking, and accessibility details will be posted here as we get closer to the event.

Why this matters for alumni

  • Give: Sustain signature ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ traditions and student experiences that unite our Mustang community.
  • Help: Volunteer to greet guests and support Student Foundation as they host this campus favorite.
  • Connect: Reconnect with classmates, meet current students, and celebrate together on the Boulevard.
Reading of the Christmas Story during Celebration of Lights
The reading of the Christmas Story remains a treasured part of the program.

A tradition since 1977

The first celebration—then called the Festival of Lights—was held in 1977 when students organized a Christmas lighting party to thank the community. Luminarias lined the sidewalks, the choir sang, and the University president read the Christmas Story as Dallas Hall lit up the night. In 1978 the event became Celebration of Lights, and the spirit has grown ever since.
