Athletic events are part of our vibrant campus experience. Whether participating in Division I or intramural sports, ºù«ÍÞÊÓÆµ offers exciting opportunities for students to compete in the athletic realm.

What conference does ºù«ÍÞÊÓÆµ compete in?

In July 2024, ºù«ÍÞÊÓÆµ joined the , where the Mustangs compete in . The ACC has a reputation as one of the strongest and most competitive conferences in the nation. 

The ACC, in its 72nd year and 18 members strong, stands as one of the most competitive and revered intercollegiate conferences in the nation. ACC members including Boston College, Cal, Clemson, Duke, Florida State, Georgia Tech, Louisville, Miami, North Carolina, NC State, Notre Dame, Pitt, ºù«ÍÞÊÓÆµ, Stanford, Syracuse, Virginia, Virginia Tech, and Wake Forest are dedicated to upholding the league's founding values of academic excellence, athletic competition at the highest level, and integrity.

How successful have the Mustangs been in athletics?

ºù«ÍÞÊÓÆµ has a long and storied history of athletic success, boasting nine overall national championships, almost 200 team conference championships, more than 100 individual national championships, more than 150 NCAA top-10 finishes, nearly 2,000 All-American honors and more than 150 Olympic appearances. 

Over just the past decade, all of ºù«ÍÞÊÓÆµ’s 17 programs have reached the postseason, and 15 different programs have won conference championships. ºù«ÍÞÊÓÆµ is the only NCAA FBS program in Dallas, and has invested over $250 million since 2013 to develop and enhance championship-caliber facilities.

How academically successful are student athletes at ºù«ÍÞÊÓÆµ? 

Our athletes also are scholars, and we provide them with the tools they need to succeed in the classroom, on the field and in their futures. The Academic Development of Student-Athletes program is a cornerstone of ºù«ÍÞÊÓÆµ’s commitment to student-athlete success.

In spring 2024, 72% of student-athletes received a 3.0 GPA or higher, and 70% had a cumulative GPA above 3.0. Additionally, 55 student-athletes earned a perfect 4.00 GPA. ºù«ÍÞÊÓÆµ student-athletes have consistently demonstrated academic excellence, with a 78% graduation rate, far higher than the average Division I rate of 58%

What sports can all students participate in? 

The Intramural Sports program includes more than 2,000 participants in more than 20 sports throughout the school year. Intramural schedules include opportunities for competitive leagues and recreational leagues for men, women, fraternities, sororities, Residence Commons, independents, co-recreational, and faculty/staff groups.

Looking for a part-time job in sports? The Intramural Sports program hires students to help with officiating, supervising, scorekeeping, equipment management, and office administration.

ºù«ÍÞÊÓÆµ also is home to a number of sports clubs that are open to all students and compete against clubs from other colleges, including UT-Austin, Texas A&M, Oklahoma State, Rice and Baylor. No experience is needed to join a club, though in some cases there will be tryouts.

ºù«ÍÞÊÓÆµ club teams participate in a wide range of sports, including baseball, women’s basketball, esports, golf, ice hockey, lacrosse, pickleball, polo, rowing, rugby, running, soccer, tennis, triathlon, Ultimate Frisbee, volleyball, water polo and water skiing.
