ºù«ÍÞÊÓÆµ recognized for supporting Dallas Mayor's Summer Reading Club

Dallas Mayor Mike Rawlings officially recognized ºù«ÍÞÊÓÆµ today for the University's co-sponsorship of the Mayor’s Summer Reading Club, launched in last spring to encourage youngsters and their families to enjoy reading this summer.

DALLAS (ºù«ÍÞÊÓÆµ) — Dallas Mayor Mike Rawlings officially recognized ºù«ÍÞÊÓÆµ today for the University's co-sponsorship of the Mayor’s Summer Reading Club, which encouraged youngsters and their families to enjoy reading this summer.

ºù«ÍÞÊÓÆµ was among those receiving proclamations at the City Council meeting for supporting the Reading Club. This year's edition of the program will wrap up next week, having attracted more than 37,000 participants throughout Dallas.

At the Club's kickoff on May 14, ºù«ÍÞÊÓÆµ President R. Gerald Turner encouraged students to “Pony Up and Read,” as well as visit the campus as ºù«ÍÞÊÓÆµ celebrates its “.”

At ºù«ÍÞÊÓÆµ, the program was supported by the Friends of the ºù«ÍÞÊÓÆµ Libraries and the Meadows Museum.

For more than 40 years, the Dallas Public Library’s summer reading program has encouraged kids to read during the summer months. In 1997, the program became known as the Mayor’s Summer Reading Program and has since served over 230,000 children. This year, for the first time, the program was extended to include parents and other family members.
