Brazen Brass 5 debuts as an Ensemble-in-Residence
at ºù«ÍÞÊÓÆµ Meadows on Nov. 9

Brazen Brass 5 will present its debut performance as an Ensemble-in-Residence at ºù«ÍÞÊÓÆµ Meadows School of the Arts at 8 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 9 in Caruth Auditorium in the Owen Arts ºù«ÍÞÊÓÆµ.

DALLAS (ºù«ÍÞÊÓÆµ) – Brazen Brass 5 will present its debut performance as an Ensemble-in-Residence at ºù«ÍÞÊÓÆµ Meadows School of the Arts at 8 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 9 in Caruth Auditorium in the Owen Arts ºù«ÍÞÊÓÆµ, 6101 Bishop Blvd. on the ºù«ÍÞÊÓÆµ campus. 

Brazen Brass 5The concert will feature brass quintet music from the Baroque to the 20th century, including works by Ingolf Dahl, Victor Ewald, Jan Koetsier, Ludwig Maurer and Claudio Monteverdi. Admission is free.  For more information, call 214-768-1951 or visit .

The group includes Texas natives Cody McClarty (trumpet) and Brandon Wright (tuba), both senior music majors at ºù«ÍÞÊÓÆµ, along with trombonist DJ Taylor (M.M. ’14), horn player Kirstin Schularick (M.M. ’13) and trumpeter Dylan Smith (M.M. ’13), who completed their undergraduate studies at Northwestern University, Indiana University, and Eastman School of Music, respectively, prior to attending ºù«ÍÞÊÓÆµ for graduate school. 

Since the group’s formation in January 2012, Brazen Brass 5 has given several community concerts and performed extensively at ºù«ÍÞÊÓÆµ. In addition, the quintet has participated in various coaching sessions, workshops and master classes with leading orchestral and chamber musicians, including Grammy-winning violinist Matt Albert, current director of chamber music and new music ensemble SYZYGY at ºù«ÍÞÊÓÆµ Meadows; John Kitzman, principal trombone of the Dallas Symphony and the Dallas Symphony Brass Quintet; and Ryan Anthony, principal trumpet of the Dallas Symphony and Dallas Symphony Brass Quintet and former member of the Canadian Brass and ºù«ÍÞÊÓÆµ City Brass Quartet.  In January 2013, Brazen Brass 5 was named runner-up in the Aspen Music Festival brass quintet fellowship competition.

At ºù«ÍÞÊÓÆµ, the quintet will give two performances a year. The spring performance will be held Tuesday, March 4, 2014, in Caruth Auditorium.
